And also not important: it should work. That sounds obvious, but how often does it happen that a search function says: ‘Your search terms did not yield any results’. You find that annoying and so do your customers. Pay attention to your search function!

3. Carousels can no longer
I’m not talking about a merry-go-round at the fair, but about a rotating banner on your homepage. Those things are not good, believe me. Website builders who say otherwise are ten years behind the times. I’m not saying that you can’t have moving, dynamic elements on your site, but automated carousels are a surefire way to lose customers. Get rid of automated carousels!

Protip: Do you still want to show more items on your homepage than there is room for? A carousel that only moves when the website visitor hovers over it with their mouse is  okay  .

Capital letters are good

Nobody likes to strain their eyes to read a website. Especially on sites that provide a lot of information (like the cool blog you are reading now) this is the case. So make sure you use a font of 16px or larger and make the space between lines at least 1.5 but preferably even 2. Love the eyes of your readers!

5. Bring experience into your CTA
Back to the call to action. Make sure it’s descriptive. Let’s say you’re selling mattresses. Instead of calling your buttons “next” or “shop” or “continue,” give them names like “view mattresses,” “buy now,” and “respect your sleep.” People don’t like dry stuff, even in CTAs!

Protip:  An experienced copywriter  knows exactly how to convince a customer with words. Don’t hesitate to ask an expert for help.

Intersects may be modest

7. Show evidence
Do you claim on your website to sell the softest mattresses in the world? Show a review from a customer who shares this opinion every now and then. Do you have the best hotel in Antwerp? Embed a few Tripadvisor reviews. Or is the core message of your timber trade that your wood only comes from responsible sources? Show logos of independent organizations that you work with that show that your heart is in the right place. Substantiate what you claim, that sells better!

8. Shops and people must be visible
Do you have physical stores? Place a store locator icon in the ao lists header or menu. And is having telephone contact important? Place a telephone number in an equally visible place. Don’t hide this kind of information on a hidden contact page.

Let people continue shopping

If you have a webshop, there is a chance that people are automatically redirected to a payment page when they add a product to their shopping cart. That seems like a commercially sensible choice, but it is not. Because maybe the customer has not finished shopping yet. Maybe he wants to buy ten more products before he gets to the payment page. So give the customer a choice: when he adds a product to his shopping cart, the shop should ask him what he wants to do: continue shopping, view the shopping cart, or go to the checkout?

Let people shop without an account

Another incredibly important fact for entrepreneurs with a webshop: 35% of all webshop users drop out when you cannot complete the transaction as an unregistered customer. Of course, you as a shop owner would prefer them to create an account, but not every customer wants that. And you have to respect that. Accountless shopping yields a lot of money!
